Overview
Experience the natural beauty of Zanzibar at Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, the island's only national park and a sanctuary for wildlife.
Jozani Forest is the largest area of indigenous forest remaining on Zanzibar's Unguja Island. The forest lies in a shallow trough in the fossil coral bed between the mangrove-filled bays of Chwaka and Uzi. Seasonal flooding and a high water table have given rise to a unique groundwater forest that serves as a vital habitat for many species.
The park is world-famous as the home of the rare, endemic, and endangered Red Colobus monkeys. These friendly primates live in various relics of the forest areas on Unguja Island, but a special area has been set aside for them at Jozani to ensure their conservation.
